This proposal is specially designed for those people who have ever considered doing the Way to St. James, but don’t have enough time to walk the whole route, don’t want to risk to an unknown adventure and would like to enjoy the convenience of having their own room, don’t carry the backpack and have a support car to solve potential setbacks that may arise during the march.

To do the Way to St. James is an unforgettable experience. A multicultural and friendly atmosphere is created between pilgrims, full of mutual respect and support. Each person travels with his own motivation (religious or spiritual, cultural, sports, to dedicate time to himself …); the Way admits everything and leaves its mark on those who go through this ancient route.

The section between Roncesvalles and Logroño, about 137 km and 6 stages of the French Way, is less crowded than the last stages towards Compostela and, in turn, allows you to enjoy an incredible diversity of landscapes, from the Pyrenees mountains, to the cereal fields and vineyards in the Ebro lands, passing through famous historic sites such as Roncesvalles, Puente la Reina, Estella and Viana, in the old kingdom of Navarre, not forgetting Pamplona (famous for its San Fermin Festival and the running of the bulls) and Logroño (in La Rioja, birthplace of one of best Spanish wine). The Way is also made of charming corners and small gems that you will find in the most unexpected places and anecdotes that happen in the day-to-day.

The group is small, maximum 12 people, and encourages, whether you come alone or accompanied, to live the experience of the Way that is to meet other people, have time to chat while walking, but also have time for yourself. Each person walks at his own pace.

Besides, you will have a support car, so you do not have to carry your backpack, and you will have assistance during your walk. An English speaking assistant will introduce you to Navarra’s history and traditions.

Accommodation comprises hotels, guesthouses, hostels or rural houses along the Way in double room with bathroom.

Additional information

Limit of participants: minimum 4, maximum 12.

Day 1

Meeting of the group in Pamplona at 17h and transfer to Roncesvalles. Accommodation in the hotel, distribution of pilgrims’ passport, visit of the Collegiate Church and welcome group dinner.

Day 2

Stage 1: Roncesvalles – Zubiri. 22km.

This stage takes you from the Pyrenees of Navarre towards the south and crosses several quaint mountain villages: Burguete, Espinal, Bizcarreta-Gerendiain and Lintzoain. The path runs between forests and meadows, with a route in gentle descent, alternating with some hills, until the descent of the Erro pass to Zubiri begins in the last three kilometers.

Day 3

Stage 2: Zubiri – Pamplona. 20km

Following the course of the river Arga, the route passes through small villages of the Esteribar valley (Ilarratz, Eskirotz, Larrasoaña, Akerreta, Zuriain, Irotz, Arleta), continues along Villava and Burlada and arrives to Pamplona. It is worth noting the numerous medieval bridges that you will cross in this stage.

Day 4

Stage 3: Pamplona – Puente la Reina. 23,5km

Left the mountain of Navarre behind, at this stage you will enter in the Navarre of the cereal fields and Mediterranean climate. You will pass from the basin of Pamplona (Cizur and Zariquigui) to the valley of Valdizarbe (Uterga, Muruzabal, Obanos), crossing an important climatic and landscape barrier: the Sierra del Perdón. The main difficulty is the ascent to the Perdón. The reward, the panoramic view from there.

Day 5

Stage 4: Puente la Reina – Estella. 21,8km

Leaving the famous medieval bridge that gives its name to Puente la Reina, you will travel to the historic Merindad de Estella. You will cross some of its villages, like Mañeru, Cirauqui (with its roman bridge and roman road), Lorca and Villatuerta. The ups and downs route is dotted with fields of cereal, vineyards, olive trees and pinewoods.

Day 6

Stage 5: Estella – Los Arcos. 21,3km

After leaving behind Estella, you will soon arrive at the Monastery of Irache, in Ayegui. This is a demanding stage, especially the ascent to Villamayor de Monjardín, village in whose hill lie the ruins of the castle of San Esteban de Deyo (X Century). From this village, the route begins a continuous descent between fields, far from towns and villages, until Los Arcos. An ideal journey for reflection and introspection.

Day 7

Stage 6: Los Arcos – Logroño. 28km

This is the last and longest stage. Walking between fields of Mediterranean climate, crossing the road on occasion and walking some distance alongside the road, you will arrive in Torres del Río and discover the amazing Romanesque church of the Holy Sepulcher. A few kilometers further, Viana will surprise you with the greatness of the old quarter. The stage concludes in Logroño, ten kilometers ahead, where you can rest and enjoy the “pinchos” and “tapas” of the famous Laurel Street.
